Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Mississippi Valley; Fire Weather Concerns in the Southern High Plains

Severe thunderstorms and the threat for excessive rainfall will move into the mid-Mississippi and lower Ohio Valleys today. There is potential for a few strong tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, large hail, and scattered flash flooding. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday afternoon/evening as a frontal boundary approaches from the north. A few storms may become strong to severe. Locally heavy rainfall will also be possible. Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) of Severe Weather for most of the area on Wednesday. Mostly cloudy and muggy with lows in the 70s. Patchy fog possible overnight into Tuesday morning, especially south of I-10.
Partly cloudy skies with hot and humid conditions. High temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s with heat indices in the 90s/100s. An isolated storm or two cannot be ruled out in northern areas in the afternoon.

Hot and humid through midweek with high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s. Rain chances increase towards the end of the work week as a cold front approaches and pushes through Southeast Texas. Cooler temperatures in the wake of the front over the weekend.
