National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

On Tuesday, March 1st, 2022, the National Weather Service in Honolulu changed the "Segment Header Block" in the "Non-Precipitation Weather Messages" product, also known as the NPW.  In Hawaii, this product is primarily used to communicate Windy Advisory and High Wind Warning information.

This change removed the "Including the [city|cities] of" line from the current segment header. With detailed location information included within the “WHERE” bullet of the “WHAT/WHERE/WHEN/IMPACTS” format, removing the cities list from the header will limit potential confusion with respect to impacted areas. This change also brought the NPW format into alignment with other segmented products, such as Winter Weather (WSW), Coastal Hazard (CFW), and Flood/Flash Flood Watch (FFA).
