...Preliminary Damage Survey Information for Collin County...

A National Weather Service storm survey team found evidence of damage caused by a tornado in Collin County near Princeton, Texas.  

A tornado occurred in Princeton during the evening of April 3, 2014. Damage was found in several residential areas between Highway 380 and County Road 407 west of the center of Princeton. Some of the structures in the damage path sustained roof damage with loss of shingles and roof decking.

Path length: 1.2 miles
Path width: 40 yards
Preliminary rating: EF0
Estimated maximum winds: 85 mph

...Preliminary Damage Survey Information for Denton County...

Several severe thunderstorms with very large hail moved across Denton County during the afternoon and evening of Thursday, April 3. Numerous reports of large hail...up to the size of baseballs and softballs...accompanied the storms as they moved across Denton County and the city of Denton. 

A tornado warning was issued for Denton county based on Doppler Radar evidence of strong circulation. Several funnel clouds were Reported...but storm spotters did not report any tornadoes across Denton county. Significant damage occurred from the large hail in Denton county. However...the storm survey team has made the preliminary assessment that no tornadoes occurred across Denton county on April 3.

Base Reflectivity radar image from the Ft. Worth (Spinks Airport) radar at 6 pm. Notice the deep purple/pink areas around Krum (Denton County) and the "fish hook" appendage that is southeast of Krum. Both features are strong indications of a rotating thunderstorm, called a mesocyclone. 1.75" hail was reported near Krum at this time.

Storm Relative Velocity data from the Fort Worth Radar at 6 pm. Notice the blue color south of Krum and the bright red color just west of Texas Women's University. The green and blue colors are winds coming toward the radar and the red is wind moving away. This is a strong mesocyclone (rotating supercell thunderstorm) and a good indication for potential tornado development.

 ...Preliminary Damage Survey Information for Hunt County...

 

A National Weather Service storm survey team found evidence of damage caused by a tornado in Hunt County near Merit, Texas.

A tornado occurred 3 miles east of Merit during the evening of April 3, 2014. The most significant damage occurred to metal buildings near the intersection of FM 1569 and FM 903. The metal roof and wall panels were partially removed from a structure in this area.
