Severe Weather Education Training Schedule

NOTE: As of 2024, NWS Fort Worth now refers to our official SKYWARN classes as "Severe Weather Education" classes to encourage all residents to attend the course and learn valuable hazardous weather information and safety tips. The class will still train attendees to become official storm spotters with a certificate provided at the end of each class.

Anyone can attend ANY in-person class (regardless of the county you reside in), or you can register for an online class. Unless noted, you do not have to pre-register for an in-person class; simply show up at the location at the date and time listed. For virtual classes, registering in advance for the class is preferred but you can also join at the start time.

All classes are free and open to the public.

SKYWARN certificates are good for 2 years.

About NWS Fort Worth's Severe Weather Education Classes

Forecasters from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth conduct severe weather education classes during the months of January to March to help prepare local residents of North and Central Texas, and trained storm spotters, for the upcoming severe weather season. The NWS conducts the training in partnership with local emergency management officials who, in most cases, are responsible for maintaining their local storm spotter network.

The training sessions are typically about two hours long and cover fundamental information that every resident and spotter needs to know, with a focus on safety, identification of key weather features, and proper reporting procedures.

2025 Severe Weather Education Training Schedule

Anyone can attend ANY in-person class (regardless of the county you reside in), or you can register for an online class. Unless noted, you do not have to pre-register for an in-person class; simply show up at the location at the date and time listed. For virtual classes, registering in advance for the class is preferred but you can also join at the start time.

All classes are free and open to the public.

Classes labeled "NWS SKYWARN - Basic" are online severe weather education classes that are open to everyone, regardless of county residence. Registration for these classes is limited to 500 registrants. If a class is full, continue to check back as any cancellations will open additional spots.

County-based classes feature the Basic SKYWARN presentation only, which is the same presentation as the "NWS SKYWARN - Basic" online classes.

NWS Fort Worth will host two virtual Advanced SKYWARN classes during the 2025 season. Registration Links for those classes will be posted by mid January.
