DAMAGE SURVEY TEAMS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN PEACHTREE
CITY HAVE CONFIRMED 3 TORNADOES WITH THE MAY 20TH SEVERE WEATHER EVENT.
TORNADO #1...
CHEROKEE COUNTY
IN THE HOLLY SPRINGS AREA...
THIS TORNADO HAS BEEN RATED EF1 (WINDS APPROXIMATELY 95 MPH).
PATH...AROUND 5 MILES LONG...3/4 TO 1 MILE WIDE. THE TORNADO TOUCHED
DOWN AT SIXES ROAD NEAR INTERSTATE 575 AND TRAVELED SOUTHEAST
...ENDING AT WIGLEY ROAD NEAR HIGHWAY 92. FALTON LAKES MOBILE HOME
PARK RECEIVED THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE WITH SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE
ALSO OBSERVED IN THE EAST CHEROKEE DRIVE AREA. APPROXIMATELY 250
HOMES RECEIVED DAMAGE. FOUR MINOR INJURES HAVE BEEN REPORTED.
TORNADO #2...
WASHINGTON COUNTY
AT 620 PM...AN EF0 TORNADO WITH 70-80 MPH WINDS TOUCHED DOWN 1.5
MILES NORTHWEST OF DAVISBORO IN WASHINGTON COUNTY. THE TORNADO WAS
ON THE GROUND FOR 1 MILE AND WAS 50 YARDS WIDE AT ITS WIDEST POINT.
IT KNOCKED DOWN SEVERAL TREES ALONG ITS PATH. NO STRUCTURES WERE
DAMAGED AND NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.
TORNADO #3...
HANCOCK AND WASHINGTON COUNTIES
AT 9 PM...A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN JUST INSIDE THE SOUTHEASTERN
BORDER OF HANCOCK COUNTY NEAR STATE HIGHWAY 15. MINOR TREE
DAMAGE OCCURRED IN HANCOCK COUNTY BEFORE THE TORNADO CROSSED INTO
WASHINGTON COUNTY AND STRENGTHENED TO BRIEFLY PRODUCE EF1 DAMAGE
WITH 90 TO 100 MPH WINDS. THE TORNADO WEAKENED AGAIN AS IT ROUGHLY
PARALLELED SPARTA-DAVISBORO ROAD. SEVERAL HUNDRED TREES WERE KNOCKED
DOWN ALONG ITS PATH AND ONE BARN WAS PARTIALLY DESTROYED. THE TOTAL
PATH LENGTH WAS 4 MILES WITH A WIDTH OF 125 YARDS AT ITS MAXIMUM
INTENSITY. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.
THUNDERSTORM WIND DAMAGE (WINDS ESTIMATED AROUND 80 MPH)...
BALDWIN COUNTY
IN THE MILLEDGEVILLE AREA...
LITTLE ROAD (3.5 MILES NORTHWEST OF MILLEDGEVILLE)...APPROXIMATELY
100 TREES DOWN. MANY POWER LINES DOWN DUE TO FALLEN TREES.
NORTH JEFFERSON STREET (1 MILE NORTH OF MILLEDGEVILLE)...
APPROXIMATELY 50 TREES DOWN.
