.DISCUSSION...

High fire danger conditions this afternoon and evening due to the
combination of low RH, dry fuels, and gusty northwest winds.

Cloud cover will increase this morning and there remains a 15-20%
chance of light rain over far North GA this morning in association
with a cold front. Rain amounts will be less than a tenth of an
inch. Breezy northwest winds are expected along and behind the front
10-15 MPH with gusts 20-30 MPH. Wind gusts nearing 35 MPH will be
possible at the higher elevations in North GA. Minimum RH values
will range from 20-30%. Though depending on how quickly the front
moves through RH values could be lower than forecast. Yesterday 10-
hr fuels dropped to 6-7% and that will be possible again today.
North and north-central GA (as far south as the ATL metro eastward)
has more of an overlap of gusty northwest winds and low RH while
areas further south will not have winds quite as high. Thus, a 2-
tiered approach was taken for the Fire Danger Statement this
afternoon. We will need to closely monitor trends in northeast GA as
we could be flirting with Red Flag criteria. Elected not to issue a
Red Flag due to the isolated nature of higher end gusts and
considering how green many locations are already this season.

Much drier air filters in behind the front and will stick around
on Wednesday. Though winds are not expected to be an issue
tomorrow. Nonetheless, another fire danger statement is possible
tomorrow given RH values at or just below 25%.
