Climate Site Temperatures Precipitation Climate Site Maximum Temperature Max T Date Climate Site Total Precipitation DFN (Departure Climate Site Maximum Daily Precip (in inches) Max P Date Data prepared by NWS Peachtree City/Atlanta December 29, 2024 Severe Weather Outbreak A line of thunderstorms moved Alabama into central and portions of northern Georgia during the overnight into the early morning hours of the 29th. Most of the tornadoes and wind damage that occurred were along the line as it moved eastward. There was a wedge in place that quickly eroded to north of the metro which allowed for temperatures and dewpoints to quickly rise, putting together the ingredients for this event. In all there were 6 tornadoes with 3 being EF-0 and 3 being EF-1. There were many damage reports as shown on the graphic below with winds from 50-70 mph that occurred. Based on the Climate Prediction Center's outlook for January, Georgia has a 40-60% chance for below normal temperatures. For precipitation, Georgia has equal chances of above or below normal precipitation totals.
