National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

Widespread inland impacts are expected across north and central Georgia from Hurricane Helene, with conditions deteriorating this evening. Damaging, tropical storm-force winds are possible across a majority of the state, capable of downing swaths of trees and causing power outages. Hurricane force wind gusts will be possible as far north as the Atlanta metro, as far east as the Athens area, and along the highest terrain in northeast Georgia. Efficient, tropical rainfall on top of the 2-4" of rain received in the past 24 hours will increase chances for flooding areawide. Preparations should be finalized or nearing completion at this time.
