Extreme Heat and Excessive Rainfall This Week

A significant heat wave continues for the Rockies, Northern Plains, and Great Lakes into the Mid-Atlantic, peaking in intensity through midweek and lingering across parts of the Northern Plains and Midwest until this weekend. April 20, 1973

Just after 6 p.m. on April 20, a F3 tornado touched down in Scotland County Missouri. The tornado started approximately 3 miles southwest of Arbela, MO and moved to the northeast towards Prospect Grove, MO. The tornado traveled to the northeast and was on the ground for about 9 miles. 

There were no reports of injuries or fatalities with this particular storm. Around seven houses were damaged on the east side of Arbela and a gas station was leveled when the tornado moved through the area. Total damage estimates from the storm were around $250,000.
