Area Weather History for late March - April 1st

Mar. 26:  A significant winter storm ended across the region on this day in 1899,

                 leaving Cheyenne with 11.9 inches of snow and Scottsbluff with 7.0
                 inches.     

                           
Mar. 27:  On this day in 1975 a winter storm ended after producing heavy snows
                 over much of eastern Wyoming and especially the Nebraska panhandle.
                 Snowfall amounts from 10 to 16 inches were reported over much of the
                 panhandle.  It brought two-day snowfall totals of 11.4 inches at Scottsbluff,
                 9.0 inches at Cheyenne, and 16 inches at Harrison, Nebraska.                                    

                

Mar. 28:  On this day in 1909 a winter storm ended over the region after

                 producing 11.2 inches of snow in Cheyenne. 

                                                      

Mar. 29:  The warmest temperature ever recorded in Scottsbluff during the month

                 of March occurred on this day in 1943, with the temperature topping

                 out at 87 degrees. Other high temperatures for that day included 84

                 degrees at Alliance and 81 degrees at Kimball.

                 Cheyenne recieved just 0.2 inch of snow on this day in 1990, but it was the
                 last measurable snowfall of Cheyenne's snowiest March on record with a
                 total of 39.2 inches having fallen that month. 

               

Mar. 30:  Today is the first day of the year in which the temperature has never fallen

                 below zero in Cheyenne. This is not to be confused with the latest day of

                 the year that the temperature went below zero in Cheyenne, which is April

                 20th, 1966.

 

                 The warmest temperature ever recorded in Cheyenne during the month
                 of March occurred on this day in 1879 when the temperature topped out
                 at 77 degrees.

Mar. 31:  March closed out very dry across much of the region in 2012.  Scottsbluff
                 and Alliance closed out the month with no precipitation recorded, not
                 even a trace.  It was the driest March on record for both cities, with 
                 Scottsbluff edging out their old record of 0.01 inch set in March of
                 1911 and Alliance breaking the old record of a trace in 2002.  A trace of
                 precipitation was recorded in both Cheyenne and Chadron, becoming
                 their driest March on record.  Cheyenne broke the old record of 0.06 inch 
                 set way back in both 1882 and 1880, while Chadron equalled their record
                 previously set in March of 1922.

                 Scottsbluff’s all-time greatest daily precipitation amount for March occurred
                 on this day in 1927 when 1.80 inches was recorded.
 

                 A two day snowstorm came to an end in Cheyenne on this day in 1897 after

                 burying the town under 15.0 inches of snow.

Apr.   1:   On this day in 1975 an unusually strong arctic cold front brought some of the
                 coldest temperatures on record for the month of April to the region.
                 Cheyenne recorded its lowest temperature ever in April when the temperature
                 chilled to 8 degrees below zero.  It was the most recent of only 8 days on
                 record that the temperature has fallen below zero in Cheyenne in the month
                 of April.
