The Colorado Mountains received significant amounts of snow during the first two weeks of March with several feet occurring in some areas. As a result, numerous avalanches occurred with 549 reported through March 16th. Several roads were closed for periods of time along with stretches of I-70. Some of the avalanches were 100 Year Events according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC). Sadly three deaths also occurred due to avalanche activity.
