Flooding Possible in the Southwest U.S.; Coastal Storm to Impact the East

Heavy to excessive rainfall is expected today into Wednesday over New Mexico into far west Texas. Flash flooding and debris flows in wildfire burn areas will be possible. A strong coastal storm will develop off the Mid-Atlantic coast Wednesday, intensifying toward southern New England this weekend. Periods of heavy snow over the past 7 days have created vast amounts of snowfall in the mountains. Some places have likely received over 100 inches in remote areas of the mountains. Numerous avalanches have also occurred with portions of I-70 and other roads being closed at times. According to CAIC some of these avalanches have been 100 Year Events.
