Dangerous Heat in the Central and Eastern U.S.; Critical Fire Weather in the Great Basin and Southwest

Dangerous, record-breaking heat will intensify across most of the central and eastern U.S this week. Heat indices will likely exceed 100 degrees. Heat is likely to continue across the eastern U.S. through the Independence Day holiday weekend. Periods of heavy snow over the past 7 days have created vast amounts of snowfall in the mountains.  Some places have likely received over 100 inches in remote areas of the mountains.  Numerous avalanches have also occurred with portions of I-70 and other roads being closed at times.  According to CAIC some of these avalanches have been 100 Year Events.
