A National Weather Service Damage Assessment Team has surveyed the storm damage in Russell County. It has been determined the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. Damage estimates were consistent with winds around 95 mph.

An EF-1 tornado touched in far northern Russell County near the intersection of County Road 83 and Thomas Road. The tornado traveled east southeast and lifted near the intersection of County Road 41 and State Highway 169. The tornado snapped off or uprooted numerous trees along the path. The tornado damage path was six miles long and was 150 yards wide at its widest point.
