National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed the damage in Southern Marengo County and determined it was the result of an EF-0 tornado.

The tornado began near 3rd Avenue in Sweet Water and proceeded north crossing Highway 10. The tornado continued north of Sweet Water, dissipating near Beaver Creek Road. Damage mainly consisted of broken large tree branches. This was the second tornado near Sweet Water that afternoon. The tornado damage path was 1.75 miles long and was 75 yards wide. The maximum winds were estimated around 65 mph.
