Fayette County Tornado - March 1, 2007

National Weather Service meteorologists surveyed storm damage in northern Fayette County. It has been determined that the damage was the result of a tornado. The tornado has been rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale with estimated maximum winds around 100 mph.
The tornado touched down near the intersection of State Highway 107 and Paul Colburn Road. This location was about 9.3 miles north northwest of Fayette near the Bluff community. The tornado tracked northeastward and crossed US Highway 43. The tornado lifted near County Road 49, Bly Road and Sand Springs Road. Several homes and storage buildings were damaged along the path. Numerous trees were blown down or snapped off. The tornado damage path was 8.1 miles long and was 150 yards wide at its widest point. The tornado was on the ground from 259 PM CST until 308 PM CST. A Tornado Warning was in effect for Fayette County from 248 PM CST valid until 315 PM CST. All of central Alabama was outlooked for a High Risk of Severe Thunderstorms including the chance of violent tornadoes. A Tornado Watch was valid from 730 AM CST until 6 PM CST.
