Dangerous Heat over the South-Central and Southwest U.S. Through Next Week

Dangerous heat persists across the Desert Southwest through this weekend and across the Southern Plains and Lower Mississippi Valley through at least the middle of next week. Similar to yesterday, lingering moisture combined with a stalled boundary may trigger another round of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Although these rain chances are widespread, the probability maxes out around 15 percent, with only a few isolated storms expected to develop. Nevertheless, any storm that does form could generate strong to damaging wind gusts, so be sure to have multiple reliable ways to receive warnings.

Dangerous heat is expected to continue Today, with widespread maximum temperatures of 100°F+ across the Panhandles. Forecasted temperatures are expected to approach the record daily high temperature at Dalhart, and surpass it at Borger.

Over the next several days we continue to expect a good portion if not all the Panhandles on some days to reach or exceed 100 degrees. So we really don't see any break in the heat over the next week. There is a small uptick in precipitation chances, with our best chances Monday through Wednesday.
