Major Winter Storm to Bring Snow and Ice from the Central Plains to the Mid-Atlantic

A major winter storm will produce widespread significant impacts from the central Plains across the Ohio and Tennessee valleys, and into the Mid-Atlantic region this weekend into Monday. Areas between central Kansas and Indiana, especially along and north of Interstate 70, are likely to receive heavy snowfall. Icing is likely from eastern Kansas into the southern Appalachians. Snowfall totals Midnight Saturday night through Sunday noon are expected to be around an inch to an inch and a half in Beaver County with less than on inch in the rest of the Oklahoma Panhandle and the northeast Texas Panhandle. Some flurries will be possible as far south as Interstate 40.

While confidence is not high that we'll have enough moisture for freezing rain, the potential for freezing drizzle and freezing fog across the northeast Panhandles is certainly a concern, especially in Beaver County. A little less concern for the northern Texas Panhandle and Texas County, but still a low to medium chance of light ice accumulations, can make travel hazardous.

We'll have strong north winds for quite a bit of the overnight period tonight and they will peak on Sunday morning into early afternoon. These winds will be accompanied by much colder air, and that will also result in some very cold wind chills down to the low teens in the south to negative single digits to the northeast (See lowest wind chill Sunday graphic).
