July in New Mexico was warmer than normal area wide except near normal in the far northwest. Precipitation was below normal across most areas. 

July 2016 was drier and warmer than normal over most of New Mexico.  The first three weeks of July were relatively quiet. However, large hail and damaging winds struck parts of Harding County, including around Solano, Mosquero and Logan on the 3rd.  Welcome rain did fall over the east on the 14th and 15th. Some monsoon moisture finally made it into the western half of the state starting on the 17th and then continued through the 21st. The end of the month finally brought a good monsoon moisture tap from the south.

Albuquerque
 

There was 1.14 inches of precipitation measured at the Sunport in July 2016, compared to the normal of 1.50 inches, or 0.36 inches below the average of 1.50 inches.

The average temperature for Albuquerque in July 2016 was 81.3°, which was 3.0 degrees above the normal of 78.3°.

The average maximum temperature for the month was 95.6°. This was 5.5 degrees above the normal average maximum temperature of 90.1°.

The average minimum temperature for the month was 66.9°. This was 0.5 degrees above the normal average minimum temperature of 66.4 degrees.

 Clayton
 

There was 1.43  inches of precipitation measured at Clayton in July 2016, compared to the normal of 2.66 inches, or 1.23 inches below  the average of 2.66 inches.

The average temperature for Clayton in July 2016 was 79.0°, which was 4.3 degrees above the normal of 74.7°.  This July was tied for the 3rd warmest on record!

The average maximum temperature for the month was 95.6°. This was 7.0 degrees above the normal average maximum temperature of 88.6 degrees.

The average minimum temperature for the month was 62.4°. This was 1.6 degree above the normal average minimum temperature of 60.8°.

 Roswell
 

There was 0.45 inches of precipitation reported at Roswell during July of 2016, which is 1.61 inches below the normal of 2.06 inches. This was the 11th driest July on record.

The average temperature in Roswell for July 2016 was 86.5°, which is 6.2 degrees above the normal of 80.3 degrees. This was the warmest July on record by far! There were 11 record highs that were tied or broken during the month. The first 18 days of July were 100 degrees or higher, smashing the previous 100 or higher consecutive days of 13, back in 2011.

The average maximum temperature for the month was 102.9°. This was 9.2 degrees above the average maximum temperature of 93.7 degrees.

The average minimum temperature for the month was 70.0°. This was 3.3 degrees above the normal average minimum temperature of 67.0°

Records: record highs were tied or broken on 11 days in July!
