Strong west winds over east central New Mexico on Monday will create a strong headwind on west bound I-40, a strong tailwind on east bound I-40, and a strong crosswind for drivers on north-to-south roads like Highway 285, Highway 84, and Route 3. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the central highlands from 10 AM to 5 PM, where gusts up to 55 mph may be observed.
Elevated Fire Weather conditions for eastern New Mexico tomorrow afternoon. Fire spread conditions will be most favorable along the I-40 corridor where conditions will be drier and windier.
Cooler and wetter weather arrives mid-to-late next week. A first storm system will bring rain and high elevation snow sometime late Wednesday southern and western areas. A second colder system will bring more widespread cooler temperatures and lower snow levels Thursday night through Friday.
Cooler weather is forecast for the latter half of the week with a chance for rain and snow showers late Wednesday through Thursday night, except through Friday near the Colorado border.
