Today will be cold around the region with highs ranging from 5 degrees below average in the west to 25 degrees below average in the east. Mostly cloudy skies will prevail north of I-40 with partly cloudy skies to the south.
Monday night looks to be the coldest night of the week. Bitterly cold wind chills as low as -25 degrees are expected. Plan ahead for how and when to protect people, pets, pipes and plants from these frigid conditions.
Surges of very cold, arctic air are expected this weekend and into early next week, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season thus far. Everyone is at risk from the dangers of extreme cold, but some are more vulnerable than others. Check on family, friends, and neighbors!
Another quick-hitting storm system will impact the northeast corner of the state late Monday morning through the night. A few inches of snow accumulation will make for slick travel and blowing snow may reduce visibility at times. There's a chance that light snow accumulations and associated travel impacts could make it as far south as the south-central mountains.
