Arctic air is coming! Frigid temperatures and light snow will arrive Saturday with a second surge of even colder air Monday. Light snow will also accompany. Begin making preparations now!
A band of snow that develops over northeast areas this morning will gradually decrease in coverage and intensity as it migrates southwestward to around Clines Corners and Las Vegas in the afternoon and evening.
Snowfall will increase in coverage and intensity as a backdoor cold front surges through northeast New Mexico this morning. Snowfall will then taper off late this afternoon, lingering in some far northeast areas into Saturday evening.
An arctic front will continue to push into New Mexico today, bringing much colder air and snow to northeast NM. Cold air will spread over central and western New Mexico tonight through Sunday with another, stronger cold front arriving Monday. Temperatures will stay below normal until late next week.
An Arctic blast will arrive today and be reinforced with more frigid air on Monday, bringing consecutive days of subfreezing temperatures and bitterly cold wind chills to a number of eastern New Mexico locales. Plan ahead for how and when to protect people, pets, pipes and plants from these freezing cold conditions.
Surges of very cold, arctic air are expected this weekend and into early next week, bringing the coldest temperatures of the season thus far. Everyone is at risk from the dangers of extreme cold, but some are more vulnerable than others. Check on family, friends, and neighbors!
