A late season winter storm will bring widespread rain and snow to New Mexico. Though all but mountain areas will see rainfall initially, a cold front racing south and west Friday night into Saturday will allow much of the rain to change over to snow. Between 6 and 12 inches of snow is expected across the Northern Mountains with 1 to 4 inches common elsewhere across eastern NM. Spotty snowfall amounts expected across western NM.
Snow and blowing snow Friday night and Saturday will contribute to widespread minor and moderate impacts, with the low chance for major impacts around Raton Pass. Poor visibility is expected in falling and blowing snow across eastern NM.
Gusty winds will accompany a cold front racing southward across the eastern plains and westward through the gaps of the Central Mountain Chain Friday night and Saturday. The gusty winds will result in areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility as well as difficult driving for high profile vehicles. Blowing dust may impact Albuquerque.
Much colder temperatures are in store for Saturday. High temperatures will be between 15 and 40 degrees below normal and gusty winds will make it feel even colder.
After the winter storm exits, very cold temperatures will be in its wake. Most areas across northern and central NM will see a hard freeze.
A late season winter storm will bring widespread rain and snow to New Mexico. Total rainfall amounts (or liquid equivalent amounts) across eastern NM will be between one half and one inch. This will temporarily pause the fire weather and dust concerns.
