One component of the Cooperative Observer Program in the National Weather Service is the automated precipitation gage.  The Fischer Porter system is one of the automated gages that is in use across the country.

Here is an image of a Fischer Porter gage:

In West Michigan, these gages are installed at the following locations:

Location County
Grand Haven Ottawa
Hastings Barry
Jackson Jackson
Kent City Kent
Montague Muskegon
St. Johns Clinton
Scottville Mason
Stanton Montcal

In the table below, you will find links to graphs of precipitation data for each site for each year list.  You will notice that the precipitation amount periodically falls to near zero - this occurs when the accumulator container is partially or completely emptied.

Additionally, you will find a link to a zipped file containing the complete data set for that year (in 15 minute increments) in csv format.  If you click on the CSV link, save the file to your computer, extract it, and then you can view the data in any text editor or most spreadsheet programs..
