Overview

A complex of storms moved across the area during the evening and overnight hours of June 25th.  Storms that developed initially late in the afternoon brought large hail and damaging winds to the area, with observed wind gusts near Mitchell, SD approaching 70 mph.  While severe weather reports were sporadic, the track of severe storms moved from south of Chamberlain northeast through Mitchell before storms weakening by the time they reached Interstate 29. 

A second round of thunderstorms developed and moved through the region during the overnight hours, bringing heavy rain to areas near Huron and De Smet, SD.  A 24 hour observed rainfall total of 6.30 inches was reported southwest of De Smet in Kingsbury county resulting in localized flash flooding.
