...Heavy Rainfall Across the Region in June...

June brought an end to drought conditions across portions of South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa and Nebraska.  Drought was replaced, however, by heavy rainfall and widespread flooding.  Regional rainfall totals greater than 8" were common, with a few locations receiving monthly rainfall amounts as great as 15 to even 18 inches!  These totals were more than 600% the average rainfall for the month of June.  Here is a graphic depicting the rainfall totals for the  month along with the percent from normal precipitation for this month.

For the year, locations such as Sioux Falls and Sioux City, started the month of June with precipitation deficits of 2.00" and 4.33" respectively.  By the end of June, these same locations now have precipitation surpluses of 5" to 6".  The trace of yearly precipitation for Sioux Falls shows the sharp increase in precipitation by the middle of the month.

In Sioux City, the trace of yearly precipitation was more dramatic as heavy rain fell across the city during the middle of the month.
