IN COOPERATION WITH THE CLAY COUNTY OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN SIOUX FALLS HAS COMPLETED THE DAMAGE ASSESSMENT FOR CLAY COUNTY IN NORTHWEST IOWA.  THE DAMAGE WAS A RESULT OF NINE TORNADOES THAT OCCURRED DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS OF JUNE 11, 2004. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AS A RESULT OF THESE TORNADOES...BUT THERE WAS A LOSS OF LIVESTOCK.

THE STRONGEST TORNADO OCCURED WEST OF WEBB AND HAS BEEN RATED AS A F3 ON THE FUJITA SCALE. A F3 TORNADO HAS WIND SPEEDS BETWEEN 158 AND 206 MPH. THIS TORNADO WAS ON THE GROUND FOR OVER 30 MINUTES AND HAD A PATH LENGTH OF 5.8 MILES. ALONG ITS PATH...A STEEL BRIDGE WAS TORN AWAY FROM A ROAD APPROXIMATELY FOUR MILES SOUTHWEST OF WEBB.

BELOW IS A COMPLETE LISTING OF THE REMAINDER OF THE TORNADOES THAT OCCURRED ACROSS CLAY COUNTY.

  • TWO MILES WEST OF EVERLY: A F2 TORNADO (113-157 MPH) RESULTING IN A LITTLE OVER FIVE MILE DAMAGE PATH.
  • ONE MILE SOUTH OF EVERLY: A F1 TORNADO (73-112 MPH) RESULTING IN A TWO MILE DAMAGE PATH.
  • TWO MILES SOUTH OF FOSTORIA: A F1 TORNADO (73-112 MPH) RESULTING IN A 1.5 MILE DAMAGE PATH.
  • TWO MILES NORTHEAST OF WEBB: A F1 TORNADO (73-112 MPH) RESULTING IN A 1.8 MILE DAMAGE PATH.
  • FIVE MILES SOUTHEAST OF DICKENS: A F1 TORNADO (73-112 MPH) RESULTING IN AN ONE MILE DAMAGE PATH.
  • THREE MILES EAST OF DICKENS: THREE VERY BRIEF F0 TORNADOES (40-72 MPH).
