PRELIMINARY AND ONGOING NWS STORM SURVEYS HAVE CONFIRMED THREE
DISTINCT TORNADO TRACKS EXTENDING FROM PERQUIMANS COUNTY TO
PASQUOTANK COUNTY. THE FIRST OF THESE TORNADOES HAS BEEN DETERMINED
TO BE CONSISTENT WITH AN EF-2 TORNADO, AND TRACKED FROM NEAR
BLACKROCK NC /EASTERN BERTIE COUNTY/ TO JUST NORTHEAST OF ELIZABETH
CITY NC. AREAS INSIDE THE 35 MILE LONG TORNADO PATH INCLUDE THE
CHAPANOKE AND MOUNT HERMON AREAS JUST NORTH OF HIGHWAY 17. MANY
TREES WERE DOWN AND/OR SNAPPED OFF...AND SEVERAL FARM BUILDINGS WERE
DAMAGED OR DESTROYED. IN ADDITION...NUMEROUS HOMES WERE DAMAGED OR
DESTROYED IN THE CHAPANOKE AREA OF PERQUIMANS COUNTY...WHERE EF2
DAMAGE WAS FOUND. DAMAGE IN MUCH OF THE TORNADO PATH WAS EF0 TO EF1
IN INTENSITY.

WITH AN EF-2 TORNADO. THIS TORNADO TRACKED NORTHEAST FROM NEAR
YEOPIM ROAD IN SOUTHERN CHOWAN COUNTY...AND REMAINED SOUTH OF
HIGHWAY 17, AS IT CROSSED BURNT MILL ROAD IN PERQUIMANS COUNTY AND
HALLS CREEK ROAD IN SOUTHERN PASQUOTANK COUNTY. THE TORNADO
CONTINUED NORTHEAST AND WEAKENED TO AN EF-1 TORNADO AS IT CROSSED
INTO ELIZABETH CITY NC NEAR PEARTREE ROAD.
