This week is shaping up to be an active one, with an approaching storm system that will bring increasing winds to the area along with accumulating snow to the eastern Sierra and Spring Mountains Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning and a medium to high potential for measurable rainfall to the Valley. Stay on top of the latest forecast, and ensure you have a travel safety kit in your car if you’ll be hitting the roads!
Windy conditions will develop across western portions of the area beginning Tuesday morning, continuing into Tuesday night. These southwesterly winds will produce strong crosswinds, potentially impacting travel on US-95 between Tonopah and Las Vegas, along with US-395 in the Owens Valley. Plan ahead now and take caution, especially if traveling in a high-profile vehicle.
If you’re dreaming of a White Christmas, head up to the Spring Mountains where 3 to 6 inches of snow are forecast Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning! The heaviest snow is expected across Lee Canyon, and given the snow as well as potential for wind gusts to reach 45 to 55 mph, difficult travel is expected at times. The primary impacted roadways will be Highways 156, 157, and 158.
