Social Media: Weather-Ready Wednesday
#SummerSafety #WRW

Please help the NWS spread these important safety messages on social media! Everyone is welcome to use the text and images provided below to help the NWS build a Weather-Ready Nation. Weather-Ready Wednesday is a National Weather Service initiative to help spread weather safety messages each week. Each week you can pick a different topic to share. It can be based on the current weather or you can share one about weather that you don’t see in your area too often but others might if they are traveling.

Auto Safety Infographic

Facebook
It's Weather-Ready Wednesday! Never leave children, disabled or elderly adults or pets in parked vehicles. Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked vehicle can rapidly rise to a dangerous level for children, pets and even adults. Leaving the windows slightly open does not significantly decrease the heating rate. The effects can be more severe on children because their bodies have not developed the ability to efficiently regulate its internal temperature. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/heat/children_pets.shtml  #HeatSafety #LookBeforeYouLock #WRW

Thunderstorm Watch vs. Warning

Facebook
This Weather-Ready Wednesday, know the difference between a severe thunderstorm Watch and Warning. A severe thunderstorm WATCH means BE PREPARED. A severe thunderstorm WARNING means TAKE ACTION. If there is a severe thunderstorm watch, stay informed and be ready to act, because severe thunderstorms are possible. If there is a severe thunderstorm warning, take shelter in a strong building, and get out of mobile homes that can blow over in high winds. Severe weather is occurring or will shortly. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/thunderstorm/ww.shtml #SummerSafety #WRW

What to do if you spot a Wildfire

Facebook
This Weather-Ready Wednesday, do you know what to do if you spot a wildfire? You should walk or drive away from the fire immediately and call 911 to report it! Weather conditions and the type of ground cover (trees, dry grass, etc) can make the fire change direction quickly so it is important that you stay far away from the blaze. Leaving the area will also make it easier for firefighters and rescue workers to get to the scene. Learn more at www.firewise.org #WildfireSafety #WRW
