A TsunamiReady Supporter is an organization, business, facility or local government entity that is actively engaged
in tsunami planning and preparedness but does not have the ability to meet all of the formal recognition guidelines.

Potential TsunamiReady Supporters include, but are not limited to, businesses, schools, churches, hospitals, shopping centers, malls, utilities, museums, aquariums, villages, small communities, state parks, beaches, harbors and broadcasters/broadcast stations.

TsunamiReady Supporter eligibility and designation is determined by local National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Offices based on the TsunamiReady Supporter Criteria, which are:

  • Have ways to receive tsunami messages
  • Have ways to communicate tsunami messages
  • Make tsunami hazard or evacuation zone map available
  • Conduct tsunami awareness and preparedness activities
  • Have tsunami response plan with evacuation instructions

If you are interested in becoming a TsunamiReady Supporter, review the criteria and contact your local NWS Weather Forecast Office. When you are ready to apply, fill out a TsunamiReady Supporter application (pdf | docx) and submit it to your local NWS Weather Forecast Office for review. (This program is in compliance with the Paperwork Reduction Act.) Once designated, you will receive the following:

Typically, TsunamiReady Supporter designation lasts for five years. After five years, you will need to communicate (phone or email) with your local NWS Weather Forecast Office representative to verify that your entity still meets TsunamiReady Supporter criteria.
