Fire Weather Concerns in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast Today; Record Heat in the Southern U.S.; Tropical Depression Near Guam

Elevated to locally-critical fire weather conditions will continue across portions of southern New England and the Mid-Atlantic today. Record heat is expected in the southern Plains into portions of the Southeast into the weekend. Tropical Depression Kong-Rey has developed near Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. Temperatures will be a little cooler Saturday, and then very warm highs are expected Sunday and Monday. Gusty south winds are expected Monday and Tuesday. Increasing clouds for Tuesday into Wednesday. Low rain chances Wednesday afternoon and evening.
A cold front may bring a chance of showers and even a thunderstorm for Halloween. Highs will decrease to mid 70s to lower 80s, but stay above normal. Rain chances will continue into the first week of November and probably through Election Day, as an upper low replaces upper ridging over the Southwest U.S.
