THIS RANKS AS THE SIXTH COOLEST OCTOBER ON RECORD. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR ABILENE IN OCTOBER WAS 4.37 INCHES. THIS WAS 1.47 INCHES ABOVE THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 2.90 INCHES. FLASH FLOODING OF ROADS OCCURRED IN KIMBLE AND SUTTON COUNTIES ON THE 23RD AND 24TH. RIVER RISES AND SOME MINOR RIVER FLOODING ALSO OCCURRED ON PARTS OF THE SOUTH LLANO AND SAN SABA RIVERS...AND ALONG THE ELM CREEK AT BALLINGER. THE PERSISTENT MOISTURE RESULTED IN CLOUDY SKIES ON NUMEROUS DAYS DURING THE MONTH. THIS HELPED TO KEEP DAYTIME TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL. THE PASSAGE OF SEVERAL COLD FRONTS HELPED TO REINFORCE THE COOL AIR OVER THE REGION. A REPEATING PATTERN OF CLOUDY SKIES...FOG AND DRIZZLE ALONG WITH CHILLY TEMPERATURES OCCURRED ON THE DAYS AFTER THE FRONTAL PASSAGES.
