WELL BELOW NORMAL ACROSS MOST OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS IN
NOVEMBER...

SCATTERED LOCATIONS ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY...HEARTLAND AND
NORTHWEST HILL COUNTRY RECEIVED PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS RANGING
FROM 0.5 TO 1.5 INCHES FOR NOVEMBER. FOR MANY LOCATIONS
HOWEVER...TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH VARIED UNDER ONE
QUARTER OF AN INCH.

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR NOVEMBER
WAS 56.9 DEGREES. THIS WAS 3.2 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 53.7 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR ABILENE IN
NOVEMBER WAS 0.12 INCHES. THIS WAS 1.18 INCHES BELOW THE MONTHLY
NORMAL OF 1.30 INCHES. ABILENE RECORDED 0.6 INCHES OF SNOWFALL
IN NOVEMBER.

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
NOVEMBER WAS 57.6 DEGREES. THIS WAS 3.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 54.0 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR SAN
ANGELO IN NOVEMBER WAS ONLY 0.01 INCHES. THIS WAS 1.09 INCHES
BELOW THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 1.10 INCHES. A TRACE OF SNOW WAS
RECORDED IN SAN ANGELO IN NOVEMBER.


NOVEMBER 2006 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

OVERALL DURING NOVEMBER...A LACK OF MOISTURE RETURN FROM THE GULF
OF MEXICO AND THE TRACK OF STORM SYSTEMS TO THE NORTH OF THE
REGION RESULTED WELL BELOW NORMAL PRECIPITATION FOR WEST CENTRAL
TEXAS.

A LIGHT FREEZE OCCURRED ACROSS PARTS OF THE BIG COUNTRY (INCLUDING
ABILENE) ON THE EARLY MORNING OF THE 2ND. THIS MARKED THE FIRST
FREEZE OF THE AUTUMN SEASON AT THOSE LOCATIONS.

A DRY AND UNSEASONABLY WARM AIRMASS OCCUPIED THE REGION ON THE
8TH AND 9TH. HIGH TEMPERATURES REACHED THE UPPER 80S ON THE
8TH...AND WERE AROUND 90 DEGREES ON THE 9TH. RECORD HIGHS WERE
SET ON THE 9TH WITH 90 AT ABILENE AND 91 DEGREES AT SAN ANGELO.
THESE RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES WERE JUST A COUPLE OF DEGREES SHORT
OF THE ALL-TIME RECORD HIGHS FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER.

A POTENT STORM SYSTEM DROPPED INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS LATE ON THE
14TH BEFORE MOVING EAST TOWARD THE MISSISSIPPI VALLEY ON THE 15TH.
A STRONG COLD FRONT WITH THIS SYSTEM SWEPT THROUGH WEST CENTRAL
TEXAS DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OF THE 14TH AND 15TH. STRONG
GUSTY NORTH NORTHWEST WINDS FOLLOWED PASSAGE OF THIS COLD FRONT...
AND CONTINUED THROUGH MUCH OF THE DAY ON THE 15TH. PEAK WIND GUSTS
REACHED 54 MPH AT ABILENE...45 MPH AT SAN ANGELO...AND 41 MPH AT
JUNCTION. MUCH DRIER AIR INVADED THE REGION ON THE 15TH IN THE
WAKE OF THE FRONTAL PASSAGE. AFTERNOON RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES
DROPPED BELOW 20 PERCENT ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS.

A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WITH COLDER AIR SETTLED SOUTH INTO WEST
TEXAS ON THE NIGHT OF THE 15TH. WITH DIMINISHED WINDS AND THE
DRY AIRMASS...TEMPERATURES FELL QUICKLY AFTER SUNSET. THE FIRST
FREEZE OF THE AUTUMN SEASON OCCURRED ACROSS MOST OF WEST CENTRAL
TEXAS ON THE EARLY MORNING OF THE 16TH.

AFTER A STRONG COLD FRONTAL PASSAGE ON THE 29TH...MUCH COLDER
AIR INVADED THE REGION FROM THE NORTH...AND WAS ACCOMPANIED BY
STRONG GUSTY NORTH TO NORTHWEST WINDS. PEAK WIND GUSTS ON THE
30TH  INCLUDED 39 MPH AT ABILENE...43 MPH AT SAN ANGELO AND 41
MPH IN JUNCTION. TEMPERATURES REMAINED IN THE 30S ACROSS MOST OF
WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE 30TH...AND WIND CHILL VALUES WERE IN
THE TEENS FOR PART OF THE DAY.

AS A STRONG STORM SYSTEM MOVED OUT OF NEW MEXICO AND INTO TEXAS
AND THE SOUTHERN PLAINS ON THE 30TH...LIGHT WINTRY PRECIPITATION
OCCURRED WITH THE COLD AIR IN PLACE. A MIX OF SNOW...SLEET AND
FREEZING RAIN OCCURRED ACROSS MUCH OF THE REGION NORTH OF A SAN
ANGELO TO BROWNWOOD LINE. SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATED TO AROUND
AN INCH AT SOME LOCATIONS ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY. ABILENE
REPORTED THUNDER WITH THE PRECIPITATION...AND A SNOWFALL OF 0.6
INCHES. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 3 INCHES OCCURRED IN HASKELL
AND THROCKMORTON COUNTIES.
