PRECIPITATION IN WEST CENTRAL TEXAS IN NOVEMBER...

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR NOVEMBER
WAS 57.1 DEGREES. THIS WAS 3.4 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE
TEMPERATURE OF 53.7 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR ABILENE IN
NOVEMBER WAS ONLY A TRACE. THIS WAS 1.30 INCHES BELOW THE MONTHLY
NORMAL OF 1.30 INCHES. NOVEMBER PRECIPITATION OF A ZERO OR A TRACE
HAS BEEN RECORDED IN ABILENE ON 8 OTHER YEARS.

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
NOVEMBER WAS 57.1 DEGREES. THIS WAS 3.1 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 54.0 DEGREES. SAN ANGELO RECORDED NO
PRECIPITATION IN NOVEMBER. THIS WAS 1.10 INCHES BELOW THE
MONTHLY NORMAL OF 1.10 INCHES. NOVEMBER PRECIPITATION OF ZERO HAS
BEEN RECORDED IN SAN ANGELO ON 7 OTHER YEARS.


NOVEMBER 2005 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

MOST OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS RECEIVED NO PRECIPITATION DURING NOVEMBER.
DRY AIRMASSES CONTINUALLY OCCUPIED THE REGION WITH LITTLE
OPPORTUNITY FOR MOISTURE TO ENTER THE AREA FROM THE GULF OF MEXICO.
LATE IN THE MONTH...AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE BROUGHT SHOWERS TO
PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN HEARTLAND AND NORTHWEST HILL COUNTRY. THESE
OCCURRED SOUTHEAST OF A RICHLAND SPRINGS TO JUNCTION LINE. THE
RAINFALL AMOUNTS WERE GENERALLY LESS THAN ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SOUTHERN SAN SABA AND EXTREME SOUTHEASTERN
MASON COUNTIES...WHERE QUARTER TO HALF INCH AMOUNTS OCCURRED.

WARM AND DRY CONDITIONS PREVAILED IN WEST CENTRAL TEXAS DURING EARLY
NOVEMBER...UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM ALOFT.
TEMPERATURES WERE WELL ABOVE NORMAL DURING THIS TIME...AND HIGH
TEMPERATURES REACHED INTO THE 80S ON SEVERAL DAYS.

A SIGNIGICANT CHANGE IN THE PATTERN ALOFT ALLOWED A STRONG COLD
FRONT TO SWEEP SOUTHWARD ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE 15TH.
GUSTY NORTH WINDS FOLLOWED PASSAGE OF THE COLD FRONT...AND A PEAK
GUST OF 44 MPH WAS RECORDED AT ABILENE. HIGH PRESSURE WITH A MUCH
COLDER AND DRIER AIRMASS SETTLED SOUTH INTO TEXAS ON THE 16TH. A
HARD FREEZE OCCURRED ON THE EARLY MORNING OF THE 16TH WITH LOW
TEMPERATURES IN THE 20S AREAWIDE. THIS MARKED THE FIRST FREEZE OF
THE AUTUMN SEASON FOR ABILENE AND SAN ANGELO. LOW TEMPERATURES IN
THE 20S WERE RECORDED AT MOST LOCATIONS AGAIN ON THE 17TH. WITH VERY
DRY AIR IN THE REGION...RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES DROPPED INTO THE 10
TO 15 PERCENT RANGE ON THE AFTERNOON OF THE 17TH.

A POTENT STORM SYSTEM MOVED INTO THE PLAINS ON THE 27TH. THIS BROUGHT
STRONG GUSTY WEST WINDS TO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. ABILENE RECORDED A
PEAK WIND GUST OF 56 MPH. A PEAK GUST OF 41 MPH WAS OBSERVED IN
ABILENE ON THE 30TH WHEN GUSTY SOUTH WINDS OCCURRED ACROSS THE
REGION.
