A strong, long-duration atmospheric river will bring excessive rainfall, flash flooding, and very strong winds to southwest Oregon and northwest California through Thursday. PRECIPITATION AND TEMPERATURES WERE WELL ABOVE NORMAL FOR NOVEMBER...
EXCEPT FOR A SHARP COLD SNAP WHICH OCCURRED LATE IN THE MONTH.   

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR NOVEMBER 
WAS 58.3 DEGREES. THIS WAS 2.9 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE 
TEMPERATURE OF 55.4 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR NOVEMBER WAS 3.46 
INCHES. THIS WAS 2.38 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 1.08 INCHES. THE 
FIRST FREEZE OF THE SEASON OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 27TH. THE NORMAL DATE OF
THE FIRST FREEZE IN THE FALL IS NOVEMBER 15TH. SAN ANGELO RECORDED 4 
INCHES OF SNOW IN NOVEMBER. 

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR NOVEMBER WAS 
58.4 DEGREES. THIS WAS 3.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
OF 54.9 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR NOVEMBER WAS 3.39 INCHES. THIS
WAS 1.91 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 1.48 INCHES. THE FIRST FREEZE OF THE
SEASON OCCURRED ON NOVEMBER 20TH. THE NORMAL DATE OF THE FIRST AUTUMN
FREEZE IS NOVEMBER 19TH. ABILENE REPORTED 5 INCHES OF SNOW FOR THE 
MONTH. 


NOVEMBER 2001 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

THE MAIN WEATHER FEATURES IN NOVEMBER INCLUDED A SIGNIFICANT RAIN EVENT
IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH...AND A SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER EVENT
TOWARD THE END OF THE MONTH. 

AN AREA OF SHOWERS...WHICH OCCURRED SOUTH OF A SONORA TO MASON LINE
ON THE EVENING OF THE 8TH...BROUGHT 0.75 TO 1.5 INCHES OF RAIN TO
THAT REGION. 

AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE BROUGHT SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO 
EASTERN SECTIONS OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE 11TH. WIDELY SCATTERED 
LOCATIONS EAST OF AN ABILENE TO EDEN LINE RECEIVED ONE TO TWO INCHES
OF RAIN...WHILE THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL OF 3 TO 4 INCHES OCCURRED OVER
SOUTHERN BROWN COUNTY. 

A SIGNIFICANT RAIN EVENT OCCURRED FROM THE 14TH TO THE 17TH. AN UPPER
LEVEL STORM SYSTEM DROPPED SOUTH AND EAST INTO FAR WESTERN TEXAS...
AND THEN REMAINED NEARLY STATIONARY BEFORE LIFTING TO THE NORTH INTO
NEW MEXICO. THIS SYSTEM BROUGHT WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
WITH HEAVY RAIN TO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 
INCHES WERE COMMON...BUT A FEW LOCATIONS RECEIVED 4 TO 6 INCH 
AMOUNTS.  

ALTHOUGH THIS EVENT BROUGHT MUCH NEEDED RAIN TO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS...
THE HEAVY RAIN CAUSED SOME FLOODING PROBLEMS. FLOODING OF ROADS WAS
REPORTED IN KIMBLE COUNTY...AND NEAR HAMLIN IN JONES COUNTY. MODERATE 
FLOODING OCCURRED ON THE SOUTH LLANO RIVER NEAR JUNCTION. FLOODING 
ALSO OCCURRED ON THE SOUTH LLANO RIVER NEAR MASON.   

SCATTERED SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS ACCOMPANIED A COLD FRONTAL
PASSAGE THROUGH THE REGION ON THE 19TH. RAINFALL AMOUNTS WERE GENERALLY
LESS THAN ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH...BUT A FEW LOCATIONS RECEIVED QUARTER 
TO HALF INCH AMOUNTS. 

LATE ON THE 23RD AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE BROUGHT LIGHT RAINSHOWERS TO
MUCH OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS...WITH RAINFALL AMOUNTS GENERALLY LESS THAN 
ONE TENTH OF AN INCH. GUSTY WINDS ALSO ACCOMPANIED THIS DISTURBANCE...
AND A PEAK WIND GUST OF 43 MPH WAS RECORDED AT THE ABILENE REGIONAL 
AIRPORT. 

A SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER EVENT OCCURRED ON THE 28TH. AS VERY COLD 
AIR SETTLED INTO THE REGION AND TEMPERATURES DROPPED BELOW FREEZING...A
STRONG UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM MOVED IN FROM THE WEST AND BROUGHT MIXED
PRECIPITATION TO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. THE HEAVIER SNOW FELL GENERALLY 
WEST OF A LINE FROM SONORA TO EDEN TO CROSS PLAINS. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF
4 TO 6 INCHES WERE COMMON. ABILENE REPORTED 5 INCHES OF SNOW...WHILE SAN
ANGELO RECORDED 4 INCHES. THE PRECIPITATION WAS MOSTLY FREEZING RAIN AND
SLEET OVER THE HEARTLAND AND NORTHWEST HILL COUNTRY...WHERE SIGNIFICANT
ICE ACCUMULATIONS OCCURRED. WITH TEMPERATURES BELOW FREEZING...THE SNOW
AND ICE MADE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS...AND 
NUMEROUS TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS WERE REPORTED. TEMPERATURES H0OVERED IN THE 
MID TO UPPER 20S ACROSS THE REGION WITH WIND CHILL READINGS IN THE TEENS.    

THE SNOW AND ICE MELTED ON THE LAST TWO DAYS OF THE MONTH AS 
TEMPERATURES QUICKLY MODERATED.
