ABILENE...

THE JUNE MONTHLY PRECIPITATION WAS WELL ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS
THE EASTERN HALF OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. PRECIPITATION WAS
NEAR TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL ACROSS FAR WESTERN PARTS OF
THE REGION. THE AREA GENERALLY SOUTH AND EAST OF A LINE
FROM OZONA TO FORT MCKAVETT TO HASKELL (AND INCLUDING
PARTS OF THE CONCHO VALLEY AROUND SAN ANGELO) RECEIVED 5
TO 12 INCHES OF RAINFALL FOR THE MONTH.

TEMPERATURES WERE BELOW NORMAL FOR THE MONTH. WITH THE
PRESENCE OF A PERSISTENTLY MOIST AIRMASS...CONSIDERABLE
CLOUD COVER AND WITH THE SHOWER AND THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY...
DAYTIME TEMPERATURES WERE HELD BELOW 90 DEGREES FOR 20 DAYS
AT ABILENE...20 DAYS AT SAN ANGELO AND 17 DAYS AT JUNCTION.
NO DAYS WERE RECORDED WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES OF 100 DEGREES
OR MORE AT ABILENE...SAN ANGELO AND JUNCTION.

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
JUNE WAS 77.2 DEGREES. THIS WAS 2.6 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 79.8 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR
JUNE WAS 7.86 INCHES. THIS WAS 4.80 INCHES ABOVE THE MONTHLY
NORMAL OF 3.06 INCHES. THIS MARKS THE 6TH WETTEST JUNE ON
RECORD FOR ABILENE.

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
JUNE WAS 77.9 DEGREES. THIS WAS 1.3 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 79.2 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR
JUNE WAS 5.54 INCHES. THIS WAS 3.02 INCHES ABOVE THE MONTHLY
NORMAL OF 2.52 INCHES. THIS MARKS THE 5TH WETTEST JUNE ON
RECORD FOR SAN ANGELO.


JUNE 2007 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

JUNE WAS MARKED BY A RATHER ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN ACROSS
THE REGION.

A COMPLEX OF STRONG TO SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS AFFECTED THE BIG
COUNTRY...FROM THE EVENING OF THE 1ST INTO THE POST-MIDNIGHT
HOURS OF THE 2ND. THE LARGEST HAIL REPORTED WAS GOLFBALL SIZE
IN THROCKMORTON COUNTY (4 MILES NORTHEAST OF FORT GRIFFIN) AND
SHACKELFORD COUNTY (10 MILES NORTHEAST OF HAMBY). WINDS TO
65 MPH OCCURRED IN MORAN. SOME FLOODING OCCURRED JUST NORTH
OF THROCKMORTON. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ONE HALF TO ONE INCH
WERE COMMON ACROSS THE NORTHEASTERN HALF OF THE BIG COUNTRY.
SCATTERED LOCATIONS RECEIVED 1 TO 3 INCH AMOUNTS.

A MORE WIDESPREAD SEVERE WEATHER EVENT OCCURRED DURING THE
EVENING HOURS OF THE 3RD...AS AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE
INTERACTED WITH AN UNSTABLE AIRMASS AND WEAK COLD FRONT
ACROSS THE REGION. THE STRONGEST STORMS AFFECTED THE CONCHO
VALLEY AND NORTHWEST HILL COUNTRY. A PEAK WIND GUST OF 63 MPH
WAS RECORDED AT THE SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT. WIND GUSTS
OF 60 TO 65 MPH WERE REPORTED IN TOM GREEN COUNTY (6 MILES EAST
OF TANKERSLEY AND 2 MILES SOUTH OF CHRISTOVAL)...IN MASON...
AND IN KIMBLE COUNTY (4 MILES SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF LONDON...
1 MILE NORTH OF JUNCTION AND 18 MILES EAST OF SEGOVIA). WIND
DAMAGE WAS REPORTED IN JUNCTION. THE LARGEST HAIL REPORTED WAS
GOLFBALL SIZE IN MENARD COUNTY (5 MILES EAST-NORTHEAST OF
MENARD)...WHICH BROKE WINDOWS OUT OF A HOUSE. THE VERY HEAVY
RAINFALL FROM THE STORMS CAUSED FLASH FLOODING OF SOME LOW-
WATER CROSSINGS IN SAN ANGELO. FLOODING ALSO OCCURED AT A
ROAD IN MCCULLOCH COUNTY (4 MILES SOUTH OF VOCA AT TIGER
CREEK). SCATTERED LOCATIONS RECEIVED 1 TO 2 INCHES OF RAINFALL
FROM THESE STORMS.

A PERIOD OF ACTIVE WEATHER OCCURRED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH
(14TH TO 17TH)...WHEN A WEAK UPPER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM DROPPED
ACROSS THE WESTERN HALF OF OKLAHOMA INTO NORTH TEXAS. THE
APPROACH OF THIS SYSTEM INTO A MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIRMASS...
ALONG WITH WEAK SURFACE BOUNDARIES IN THE REGION...TRIGGERED
SCATTERED CLUSTERS OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. THESE AFFECTED
EASTERN SECTIONS OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE 14TH. A COUPLE OF
SEVERE STORMS ON THAT DATE PRODUCED PENNY TO NICKEL SIZE HAIL.
ALSO ON THE 14TH...A WIND GUST TO 46 MPH OCCURRED AT JUNCTION.

THE STORMS WERE MOST NUMEROUS AND INTENSE ON THE EVENING AND
EARLY NIGHTTIME HOURS OF THE 15TH. SEVERE STORMS PRODUCED
GOLFBALL SIZE HAIL 12 MILES NORTH OF BARNHART (IRION COUNTY)...
4 MILES NORTH-NORTHEAST OF KNICKERBOCKER (TOM GREEN COUNTY)...
AND JUST SOUTHEAST OF BRONTE (COKE COUNTY). QUARTER SIZE HAIL
WAS REPORTED IN PARTS OF SAN ANGELO AND SEVERAL MILES NORTH OF
THE CITY. A 56 MPH WIND GUST WAS RECORDED AT THE SAN ANGELO
REGIONAL AIRPORT.

THE SHOWERS AND STORMS FROM THE 14TH TO 17TH CONTAINED VERY
HEAVY RAINFALL. NORTHWEST OF A LINE FROM THROCKMORTON TO SAN
ANGELO TO OZONA...RAINFALL TOTALS OF ONE HALF TO ONE INCH WERE
COMMON WITH ISOLATED HIGHER AMOUNTS. ONE TO THREE INCH AMOUNTS
FELL AT NUMEROUS LOCATIONS ACROSS THE HEARTLAND AND NORTHWEST
HILL COUNTRY...ALONG THE INTERSTATE 10 CORRIDOR...AND ACROSS
THE EASTERN CONCHO VALLEY. THE HEAVIEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 3
TO 6 INCHES OCCURRED IN POCKETS ACROSS THE HEARTLAND. IN
BROWNWOOD...SIGNIFICANT STREET FLOODING WAS REPORTED...AND
SEVERAL ROADS WERE CLOSED DUE TO HIGH WATER.

A FAST-MOVING SQUALL LINE OF STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS AFFECTED
WEST CENTRAL TEXAS...DURING THE POST-MIDNIGHT AND EARLY
MORNING HOURS OF THE 20TH. STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND HEAVY RAIN
ACCOMPANIED THIS SOUTHWARD MOVING LINE OF STORMS. WINDS OF
50 TO 70 MPH OCCURRED ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PARTS OF
WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. THIS CAUSED WIND DAMAGE AT SCATTERED
LOCATIONS ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY AND CONCHO  VALLEY. RECORDED
PEAK WIND GUSTS INCLUDE 55 MPH AT SAN ANGELO...48 MPH AT
ABILENE...AND 45 MPH IN JUNCTION. QUARTER SIZE HAIL WAS
REPORTED AT TALPA (COLEMAN COUNTY). RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ONE
HALF TO 1.5 INCHES FELL ACROSS MOST OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS.

LATE IN THE MONTH (24TH TO 29TH)...A WEAK UPPER LEVEL LOW
PRESSURE SYSTEM AND DISTURBANCE LINGERED OVER THE REGION...
AND BROUGHT NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS. CLUSTERS OF
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WITH VERY HEAVY RAINFALL OCCURRED.
A SEVERE STORM PRODUCED NICKEL SIZE HAIL 5 MILES WEST OF
NOLAN. A LINE OF SEVERE STORMS WITH STRONG WINDS MOVED SOUTH
ACROSS WEST TEXAS (INCLUDING THE WESTERN CONCHO VALLEY) DURING
THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OF THE 26TH AND 27TH. WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH
WERE REPORTED AROUND MERTZON...AND A PEAK WIND GUST OF 53 MPH
WAS RECORDED AT THE SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT.

RAINFALL TOTALS FROM THE 19TH TO 29TH OF 5 TO 8 INCHES
OCCURRED ACROSS EASTERN PARTS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. THIS WAS
PRIMARILY EAST OF A LINE FROM HASKELL TO ABILENE TO BALLINGER
TO MASON. MANY LOCATIONS EAST OF A LINE FROM OZONA TO GRAPE
CREEK TO ROTAN RECEIVED 2 TO 5 INCH RAINFALL AMOUNTS. THIS
HEAVY RAINFALL FLOODED SEVERAL ROADS...MAINLY ACROSS EASTERN
SECTIONS OF THE REGION.
