A strong, long-duration atmospheric river will bring excessive rainfall, flash flooding, and very strong winds to southwest Oregon and northwest California through Thursday. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR JULY WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL ACROSS
MOST OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. A FEW POCKETS IN THE
NORTHWESTERN CONCHO VALLEY AND ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN SECTIONS
OF THE REGION RECEIVED NEAR TO ABOVE NORMAL AMOUNTS.

TEMPERATURES FOR THE MONTH AVERAGED NEAR TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE
NORMAL. BELOW AVERAGE NIGHTTIME LOWS IN THE 60S DURING THE
FIRST PART OF JULY HELPED TO OFFSET THE EFFECTS OF THE
ABOVE NORMAL 100-DEGREE TEMPERATURES WHICH OCCURRED DURING
THE MIDDLE AND LATE PARTS OF THE MONTH.

THE NUMBER OF DAYS WHERE HIGH TEMPERATURES REACHED 100
DEGREES OR MORE INCLUDE 6 AT ABILENE...9 AT SAN ANGELO...
AND 8 AT JUNCTION.

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
JULY WAS 83.4 DEGREES. THIS WAS 0.1 DEGREES BELOW THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 83.5 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR
JULY WAS ONLY 0.01 INCHES. THIS WAS 1.69 INCHES BELOW THE
NORMAL OF 1.70 INCHES. THIS TIED FOR THE 3RD DRIEST JULY ON
RECORD AT ABILENE.

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
JULY WAS 83.0 DEGREES. THIS WAS 0.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 82.4 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR
JULY WAS 0.19 INCHES. THIS WAS 0.91 INCHES BELOW THE MONTHLY
NORMAL OF 1.10 INCHES.


JULY 2008 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF JULY...WITH A SLIGHTLY UNSTABLE
AIRMASS AND SOME MOISTURE OVER THE REGION...WIDELY SCATTERED
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED ACROSS VARIOUS PARTS OF
WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. MOST OF THESE OCCURRED ACROSS THE AREA
SOUTH OF A LINE FROM STERLING CITY TO RICHLAND SPRINGS.
WHERE THESE SHOWERS AND STORMS OCCURRED...RAINFALL AMOUNTS
EACH DAY WERE MOSTLY LESS THAN ONE HALF INCH. THE COVERAGE
OF SHOWERS AND STORMS INCREASED ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON
THE 8TH. GUSTY SOUTH TO SOUTHEAST WINDS ALSO OCCURRED ON THE
8TH. PEAK WIND GUSTS REACHED 46 MPH AT JUNCTION...AND 43 MPH
AT ABILENE AND SAN ANGELO.

BY THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH...A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM ALOFT
EXPANDED ACROSS THE REGION. THIS RESULTED IN A WEATHER
PATTERN TYPICAL OF MID-SUMMER ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS.
A FEW SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED ACROSS THE BIG
COUNTRY ON THE 13TH...14TH AND 15TH...WHERE MOISTURE RESIDED
AND THE HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM WAS A LITTLE WEAKER. THE RAINFALL
AMOUNTS WERE GENERALLY LESS THAN ONE HALF INCH...BUT A FEW
LOCATIONS RECEIVED AMOUNTS BETWEEN ONE HALF AND ONE INCH.

ISOLATED SHOWERS AND STORMS AFFECTED THE AREA WEST OF A
LINE FROM SWEETWATER ON THE 16TH AND 17TH...WITH RAINFALL
AMOUNTS LESS TAHN ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH.

LATE IN THE MONTH...HURRICANE DOLLY MADE LANDFALL AT THE
SOUTHERN TIP OF TEXAS...ACROSS SOUTH PADRE ISLAND AND NEAR
BROWNSVILLE...ON THE 23RD. THE REMNANTS OF "DOLLY" TRACKED
UP THE LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY AND WEST-NORTHWEST INTO
MEXICO ON THE 24TH. THIS BROUGHT A MOISTURE INCREASE TO
WEST CENTRAL TEXAS...AND RESULTED IN SCATTERED SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS ON THE 23RD AND 24TH. THE SHOWERS AND
STORMS WERE MOST NUMEROUS ACROSS THE HEARTLAND...NORTHWEST
HILL COUNTRY AND NORTHERN EDWARDS PLATEAU. LOCALLY HEAVY
RAINFALL ACCOMPANIED THE SHOWERS AND STORMS. RAINFALL
AMOUNTS OF ONE HALF TO ONE INCH OCCURRED AT SCATTERED
LOCATIONS SOUTHEAST OF A LINE FROM RICHLAND SPRINGS TO
SONORA...AND A FEW LOCATIONS RECEIVED OVER AN INCH. THE
CLOUDS AND RAIN HELD TEMPERATURES DOWN INTO THE 80S FOR
HIGHS ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PART OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE
24TH.

HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS PREVAILED DURING THE LAST WEEK OF
THE MONTH...AS A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM ALOFT STRENGTHENED
OVER THE REGION.

A WEAK UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE BROUGHT SCATTERED SHOWERS
AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE REGION GENERALLY SOUTH OF
INTERSTATE 20 AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 10 ON THE 31ST.
PARTS OF FAR WESTERN CROCKETT COUNTY RECEIVED AMOUNTS
FROM ONE HALF TO ONE INCH. A FEW OTHER LOCATIONS RECEIVED
QUARTER TO HALF INCH RAINFALL AMOUNTS.
