A strong, long-duration atmospheric river will bring excessive rainfall, flash flooding, and very strong winds to southwest Oregon and northwest California through Thursday. ...JULY 2000 MARKED THE THIRD DRIEST JULY ON RECORD IN ABILENE...AND 
THE FOURTH WARMEST IN SAN ANGELO...

JULY 2000 WAS THE THIRD DRIEST JULY ON RECORD FOR THE CITY OF 
ABILENE. ONLY 0.01 INCH OF RAIN FELL AT THE ABILENE REGIONAL 
AIRPORT...AND THIS WAS 2.08 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL JULY AVERAGE 
RAINFALL OF 2.09 INCHES. THE TWO DRIEST YEARS CAME IN 1946 AND 
1970...WHEN ONLY A TRACE OF RAINFALL WAS OFFICIALLY MEASURED. THE 
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH AT ABILENE WAS 85.6 DEGREES...WHICH 
WAS 1.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL AVERAGE OF 84.0 DEGREES. 

IN SAN ANGELO...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 87.2 
DEGREES...WHICH WAS 4.5 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL JULY AVERAGE 
TEMPERATURE OF 82.7 DEGREES. THIS WAS THE FOURTH WARMEST JULY ON RECORD. 
IN ADDITION THIS WAS JUST FOUR TENTHS OF A DEGREE SHORT OF BEING THE 
WARMEST JULY ON RECORD...WHICH WAS 87.6 DEGREES SET IN 1912. AT SAN 
ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE MONTHLY RAINFALL WAS ONLY 0.02 INCH. THIS 
WAS 1.04 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL NORMAL JULY RAINFALL OF 1.06 INCHES. 
ALTHOUGH ONLY 0.02 INCH OF RAIN WAS RECORDED...THIS WAS ONLY THE EIGHTH 
DRIEST JULY. THE DRIEST JULY CAME IN 1871...WHEN THE OFFICIAL 
MEASUREMENT WAS 0.00 FOR THE MONTH. IN SEVEN OTHER YEARS...MOST RECENTLY 
IN 1970...ONLY A TRACE OF RAINFALL WAS MEASURED.    

...JULY 2000 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

HOTTER AND DRIER CONDITIONS RETURNED TO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS IN JULY...AS
AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE DOMINATED THE REGION. THE NUMBER 
OF DAYS WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES OF 100 DEGREES OR MORE INCLUDED...15 IN
SAN ANGELO...12 IN JUNCTION... AND 10 IN ABILENE. AT SAN ANGELO...
RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURES WERE TIED ON THE 15TH AND 16TH. IN ADDITION TO 
THE HIGH TEMPERATURES...THE LOW TEMPERATURES WERE CONSISTENTLY ABOVE 
NORMAL DURING THE MONTH. ALTHOUGH SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS 
WITH LOCALIZED HEAVY RAIN OCCURRED OVER PARTS OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON 
SEVERAL DAYS DURING THE MONTH...THE COVERAGE OF RAINFALL WAS SPOTTY.   

THE MOST SIGNIFICANT THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY OCCURRED ON THE EVENING AND 
EARLY NIGHTTIME HOURS OF THE 25TH. SCATTERED SEVERE STORMS WITH LOCALLY
HEAVY RAIN OCCURRED OVER THE HEARTLAND AND NORTHWEST HILL COUNTRY. AT 
BRADY...HAIL TO QUARTER SIZE WAS REPORTED...ALONG WITH WIND DAMAGE. 
WIND DAMAGE WAS ALSO REPORTED IN THE TOWNS OF MASON AND MENARD. 
LOCALIZED RAINFALL OF 2 TO 3 INCHES FELL SOUTHEAST OF A LINE FROM  
BROWNWOOD TO ELDORADO.

STREET FLOODING OCCURRED IN STERLING CITY ON THE EVENING OF THE 1ST...
AS SCATTERED STORMS IN THE AREA PRODUCED 2 TO 5 INCHES OF RAIN. 

OTHER SCATTERED SHOWERS AND STORMS OCCURRED OVER VARIOUS PARTS OF WEST 
CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE 13TH...14TH...23RD...29TH...30TH...AND 31ST.
