WITH CLEAR SKIES ON THE EARLY MORNING OF THE 16TH...LOW TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE TEENS ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. SAN ANGELO RECORDED A RECORD LOW OF 16 DEGREES ON THE 16TH. THE WEATHER PATTERN FOR WEST CENTRAL TEXAS DURING THE SECOND HALF OF FEBRUARY WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT OCCURRED DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE MONTH. MUCH DRIER AIRMASSES OCCUPIED THE REGION...WITH CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND MUCH WARMER TEMPERATURES. A POTENT STORM SYSTEM MOVED FROM THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS ON THE 24TH. THE APPROACH OF THIS SYSTEM BROUGHT GUSTY SOUTH WINDS TO THE REGION ON THE 23RD...AND A PEAK GUST OF 40 MPH WAS RECORDED IN ABILENE. A FEW THUNDERSTORMS AFFECTED THE BIG COUNTRY DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OF THE 23RD AND 24TH. THE MAIN IMPACTS FROM THIS STORM SYSTEM ON WEST CENTRAL TEXAS WERE THE HIGH WINDS...VERY DRY AIR AND BLOWING DUST WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 24TH. PEAK WIND GUSTS REACHED 59 MPH AT ABILENE AND SWEETWATER...52 MPH AT SAN ANGELO...AND 45 MPH AT JUNCTION. THE HIGH WINDS ON THE 24TH CAUSED WIND DAMAGE IN BRADY AND OZONA. WITH THE STRONG WEST WINDS...BLOWING DUST OCCURRED ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. VISIBILITY DROPPED TO LESS THAN ONE MILE ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY.
