Light to moderate snow will continue into Saturday over the Great Lakes, Central Appalachians, and Northeast. This weekend into next week, a series of atmospheric rivers will bring gusty winds, periods of heavy rain, and mountain snow to northern California and the Pacific Northwest. ...PRECIPITATION WAS WELL BELOW NORMAL AND TEMPERATURES
AVERAGED NEAR NORMAL IN FEBRUARY...

TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR THE MONTH WAS LESS THAN ONE HALF
INCH ACROSS MUCH OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. SCATTERED LOCATIONS
ACROSS THE SOUTHERN AND SOUTHEASTERN PARTS OF THE REGION
RECEIVED OVER ONE HALF INCH. THE PRIMARY PRECIPITATION
EVENT OCCURRED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MONTH.

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
FEBRUARY WAS 48.3 DEGREES. THIS WAS 0.3 DEGREES BELOW THE
NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 48.6 DEGREES. TOTAL
PRECIPITATION FOR FEBRUARY WAS 0.32 INCHES. THIS WAS 0.81
INCHES BELOW THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 1.13 INCHES. ABILENE
RECEIVED 0.3 INCHES OF SNOWFALL IN FEBRUARY.

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
FEBRUARY WAS 49.6 DEGREES. THIS WAS 0.1 BELOW THE NORMAL
AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 49.7 DEGREES. TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR
FEBRUARY WAS 0.55 INCHES. THIS WAS 0.63 INCHES BELOW THE
MONTHLY NORMAL OF 1.18 INCHES. A TRACE OF SNOWFALL WAS
RECORDED IN SAN ANGELO IN FEBRUARY.


FEBRUARY 2007 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE MOVED EAST INTO THE REGION AND
BROUGHT SHOWERS TO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE 1ST. MOST
OF THESE OCCURRED SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 20. SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS ALSO OCCURRED ACROSS SOUTHERN AND
SOUTHEASTERN SECTIONS OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. A STRONG
STORM PRODUCED SMALL HAIL AND WIND GUSTS OF 40 TO 50 MPH IN
MENARD COUNTY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF ONE HALF TO ONE INCH WERE
COMMON ACROSS THE EASTERN CONCHO VALLEY AND HEARTLAND...WITH
OVER AN INCH AT A FEW LOCATIONS. WITH COLD AIR IN PLACE...
SOME SLEET MIXED IN WITH THE RAIN ACROSS THE CONCHO VALLEY...
AND THE PRECIPITATION ENDED AS A PERIOD OF SNOW AND SLEET IN
ABILENE AND SURROUNDING AREAS OF THE BIG COUNTRY.

WITH THE ARRIVAL OF ANOTHER UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE...SNOW
OCCURRED ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY FROM THE EVENING OF THE
1ST INTO THE MORNING OF THE 2ND. SNOWFALL OF 3 TO 4 INCHES
WAS REPORTED ACROSS HASKELL AND THROCKMORTON COUNTIES...
WITH 1 TO 3 INCHES NORTHWEST OF A LINE FROM SWEETWATER TO
HAWLEY TO ALBANY. SOUTHERN AND SOUTHEASTERN SECTIONS OF THE
BIG COUNTRY...INCLUDING THE ABILENE AREA...ALONG WITH THE
NORTHWESTERN CONCHO VALLEY...RECEIVED LESS THAN ONE INCH.

ON A FEW OCCASIONS...COLD AIR MOVED DOWN INTO THE REGION FROM
THE NORTH. THE MOST NOTABLE EPISODE OCCURRED ON THE 13TH-15TH.
THE BIG COUNTRY EXPERIENCED THE COLDEST TEMPERATURES...WHERE
HIGHS ON THE 14TH AND 15TH WERE IN THE UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S.
A BAND OF LIGHT SNOW AND FLURRIES OCCURRED DURING THE PREDAWN
HOURS OF THE 15TH...MAINLY ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF WEST
CENTRAL TEXAS. THE SNOWFALL AMOUNTS WERE MOSTLY A TRACE. WITH
CLEAR SKIES ON THE EARLY MORNING OF THE 16TH...LOW TEMPERATURES
WERE IN THE TEENS ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. SAN ANGELO
RECORDED A RECORD LOW OF 16 DEGREES ON THE 16TH.

THE WEATHER PATTERN FOR WEST CENTRAL TEXAS DURING THE SECOND
HALF OF FEBRUARY WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT OCCURRED
DURING THE FIRST HALF OF THE MONTH. MUCH DRIER AIRMASSES
OCCUPIED THE REGION...WITH CLEAR TO PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES AND
MUCH WARMER TEMPERATURES.

A POTENT STORM SYSTEM MOVED FROM THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES INTO
THE SOUTHERN PLAINS ON THE 24TH. THE APPROACH OF THIS SYSTEM
BROUGHT GUSTY SOUTH WINDS TO THE REGION ON THE 23RD...AND A
PEAK GUST OF 40 MPH WAS RECORDED IN ABILENE. A FEW THUNDERSTORMS
AFFECTED THE BIG COUNTRY DURING THE OVERNIGHT HOURS OF THE 23RD
AND 24TH. THE MAIN IMPACTS FROM THIS STORM SYSTEM ON WEST
CENTRAL TEXAS WERE THE HIGH WINDS...VERY DRY AIR AND BLOWING
DUST WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 24TH. PEAK WIND GUSTS REACHED 59 MPH
AT ABILENE AND SWEETWATER...52 MPH AT SAN ANGELO...AND 45 MPH AT
JUNCTION. THE HIGH WINDS ON THE 24TH CAUSED WIND DAMAGE IN BRADY
AND OZONA.  WITH THE STRONG WEST WINDS...BLOWING DUST OCCURRED
ACROSS THE NORTHERN HALF OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. VISIBILITY
DROPPED TO LESS THAN ONE MILE ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY. THE
STRONG WEST WINDS ALSO BROUGHT VERY DRY AIR INTO THE REGION.
RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES DROPPED INTO THE 5 TO 15 PERCENT RANGE
ACROSS MUCH OF THE AREA. WITH THESE CONDITIONS...SEVERAL
GRASSFIRES OCCURRED ACROSS THE REGION.

A WARM AND DRY AIRMASS OCCUPIED THE REGION AT THE END OF THE
MONTH. AT SAN ANGELO ON THE 27TH...A NEW RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE
TEMPERATURE OF 85 DEGREES WAS SET.
