A strong, long-duration atmospheric river will bring excessive rainfall, flash flooding, and very strong winds to southwest Oregon and northwest California through Thursday. CENTRAL TEXAS WHILE TEMPERATURES AVERAGED ABOVE NORMAL IN
DECEMBER...

FOR MOST OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS THE MONTHLY PRECIPITATION
WAS BELOW NORMAL. NEAR TO SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL MONTHLY
AMOUNTS OCCURRED FROM CROCKETT INTO IRION COUNTIES...
THE NORTHWESTERN CONCHO VALLEY AND WESTERN BIG COUNTRY.

AT ABILENE REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR
DECEMBER WAS 47.4 DEGREES. THIS WAS 2.0 DEGREES ABOVE THE
NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 45.4 DEGREES. TOTAL
PRECIPITATION FOR ABILENE IN DECEMBER WAS 1.16 INCHES. THIS
WAS 0.11 INCHES BELOW THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 1.27 INCHES.

AT SAN ANGELO REGIONAL AIRPORT...THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE
FOR DECEMBER WAS 48.0 DEGREES. THIS WAS 1.6 DEGREES ABOVE
THE NORMAL AVERAGE TEMPERATURE OF 46.4 DEGREES. TOTAL
PRECIPITATION FOR SAN ANGELO IN DECEMBER WAS 0.83 INCHES.
THIS WAS 0.11 INCHES BELOW THE MONTHLY NORMAL OF 0.94
INCHES.


DECEMBER 2006 WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...

DESPITE PRECIPITATION TOTALS BEING BELOW NORMAL ACROSS
MUCH OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS IN DECEMBER...A FEW STORM SYSTEMS
TRACKED FAR ENOUGH SOUTH ACROSS THE REGION TO BRING
RAINFALL.

A COUPLE OF COLD AIRMASSES AFFECTED THE REGION DURING THE
EARLY PART OF THE MONTH. LOW TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE TEENS
ON A FEW DAYS. AT SAN ANGELO...A RECORD LOW TEMPERATURE WAS
TIED ON THE 1ST AND SET ON THE 4TH. A PERIOD OF WELL ABOVE
NORMAL TEMPERATURES OCCURRED DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE
MONTH...WHEN HIGH TEMPERATURES REACHED THE MID TO UPPER 70S
(14TH TO 17TH).

A FEW STORM SYSTEMS TRACKED FROM THE SOUTHWESTERN STATES
INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS. THESE SYSTEMS BROUGHT SHOWERS TO
MUCH OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS ON THE 19TH...23RD AND 24TH...AND
ON THE 29TH. ON THE 19TH...THE SHOWERS WERE MOST NUMEROUS
ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY. RAINFALL AMOUNTS ON THE 19TH OF ONE
HALF TO ONE INCH OCCURRED ACROSS THE BIG COUNTRY WITH A FEW
HIGHER TOTALS. ONE HALF TO ONE INCH AMOUNTS ALSO OCCURRED
ACROSS THE AREA NORTHWEST OF A BALLINGER TO SAN ANGELO TO
THE SOUTHEASTERN CORNER OF CROCKETT COUNTY. SOUTHERN AND
EASTERN SECTIONS OF WEST CENTRAL TEXAS RECEIVED AMOUNTS
UNDER ONE HALF INCH.

ON THE 23RD AND 24TH...THE SHOWERS AFFECTED THE REGION
SOUTH OF INTERSTATE 20. THE GREATEST RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF
ONE HALF TO ONE INCH OCCURRED ACROSS PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN
HEARTLAND AND NORTHWEST HILL COUNTRY. ELSEWHERE THE RAINFALL
AMOUNTS WERE MOSTLY LESS THAN ONE QUARTER OF AN INCH. AS
COLDER AIR MOVED INTO THE REGION LATE ON CHRISTMAS EVE...
A FEW SNOW FLAKES MIXED IN WITH THE RAIN ACROSS PARTS OF
THE CONCHO VALLEY.

ON THE 29TH...THE SYSTEM BROUGHT NUMEROUS SHOWERS AND A FEW
THUNDERSTORMS TO WEST CENTRAL TEXAS. SCATTERED LOCATIONS
ACROSS THE WESTERN BIG COUNTRY AND WESTERN CONCHO VALLEY
RECEIVED ONE HALF TO ONE INCH OF RAINFALL. FOR MOST AREAS
HOWEVER...THE RAINFALL AMOUNTS VARIED UNDER ONE HALF INCH.
