TOTAL PRECIPITATION FOR AUGUST WAS 2.42 INCHES. THIS WAS 0.21 INCHES BELOW THE NORMAL OF 2.63 INCHES. THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REACHED 100 DEGREES OR MORE ON SEVEN DAYS IN AUGUST. DURING THE MIDDLE OF AUGUST AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE OF HIGH PRESSURE DOMINATED THE WEST CENTRAL TEXAS WEATHER WITH SEASONABLY HOT AND DRY CONDITIONS. ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED ON A FEW OCCASIONS...DUE TO THE INFLUENCE OF WEAK SURFACE BOUNDARIES OR UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES IN THE REGION. RAINFALL COVERAGE LATE IN THE MONTH BECAME MORE WIDESPREAD...AND MANY LOCATIONS RECEIVED BENEFICIAL RAINFALL. A FEW OF THE STORMS PRODUCED STRONG DOWNBURST WINDS...AND WIND DAMAGE WAS REPORTED IN ABILENE...BLACKWELL AND BROWNWOOD.
