Are you interested in becoming a trained storm spotter? Do you want to know more about severe weather? Has your SKYWARN® Certification lapsed because it's more than two years old? Do you want to meet and interact with a meteorologist from the National Weather Service? If you said, "Yes," you should attend one of our SKYWARN® Spotter Training Classes. These classes are typically held in several locations throughout the Four State Region. A meteorologist from the National Weather Service office in Shreveport will teach the class. There are two classes: Basic and Advanced. Only the Basic class is required to get your certificate.

The Advanced class gives a more in-depth look at radar interpretation and severe weather meteorology. The Advanced class requires a working knowledge of the material presented in the Basic class. Therefore, we HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you attend/schedule a Basic class BEFORE attending/scheduling an Advanced Class
Still interested in becoming a storm spotter? You can find a list of upcoming classes by clicking here. Most classes are arranged by local emergency management groups, amateur radio clubs, storm spotter groups, law enforcement, local media, and sometimes other state/federal agencies. Most of the time, these talks are open to the public.
