Weather Forecast Office
This course was designed for a select group of senior class meteorology majors with a strong interest in operational forecasting. It will offer meteorological training related to an array of topics in weather forecasting.
With a National Weather Service Office as the setting for the course, the students will witness how this knowledge is used in operational weather forecasting, and each student will experience the reality of working in the National Weather Service. Course activities include job shadowing, forecasting training, weather event simulations, participation in routine shift operations, writing area forecast discussions and weather summaries, working with a forecaster to complete the official NWS forecast, and a site visit. A resumé and job application help session will also be offered.
