.DISCUSSION...

...Fire Danger Statement for our NC counties today...

...Increased Fire Danger again tomorrow for areas east of the
Blue Ridge...

Today, temperatures are expected to be on the warm side again
under mostly sunny skies, generally in the low to mid 50s for
the mountains west of the Blue Ridge, and in the upper 50s to
low 60s to the east. Winds were gusty this morning behind a
departing low pressure system. Expect this gustiness to continue
today, with winds backing to the WSW later today as opposed to
this morning's more WNW component. May see some gusts to 30 kts
today with deep mixing and pressure rising.

Rainfall amounts have been mostly negligible with the departing
system in our area. The mountains of WV and parts of VA towards
Marion and Wytheville saw between 1 to 4 tenths of an inch of
rain, and some parts of the southern Shenandoah Valley have seen
light rain this morning. But the vast majority of locations saw
little to no wetting rain.

A Fire Danger Statement is in effect today from 10 AM to 7 PM for
our NC counties. Other parts of the forecast area remain above
criteria.

A stronger cold front is expected to push through the region
Saturday, which will increase wind gusts once again up to 35 mph
at times, especially behind the frontal passage. RH values look to
drop below 30 percent in the afternoon, and increased fire danger
is possible again for areas east of the Blue Ridge on Saturday.

Sunday and Monday have the potential to be favorable burn days,
since the winds will be lighter.
