.DISCUSSION...
Widespread wetting rainfall associated with Hurricane Helene
will make for low fire weather concerns through the weekend.
The storm will bring wind gusts from the east-southeast on
Friday ranging from 25 to 35 mph across the Piedmont, ramping
up to locally as high as 60 mph across the higher mountain
ridges. Combined with wet soils, the gusty winds will result
in scattered downed trees across the mountains. After the main
bands of rain exit the region on Friday afternoon, scattered
showers and thunderstorms will remain in the region through
at least next Tuesday.
