Critical Fire Weather Concerns; Storm Tracking Across the Plains

Combination of strong winds, dry conditions and above normal temperatures will result in elevated to critical fire weather concerns for the Southern Plains and portions of Southern California. SYNOPSIS:

Significant snow and/or blowing snow will continue this morning for areas east of the Continental Divide as well as Sweetwater County. Improving conditions are expected by late this morning into the afternoon, as the snow becomes lighter and winds weaken.

 

IMPACTS:

  • Severely reduced visibility to near zero early Monday morning from snow and blowing snow.
  • As of 3 AM roads were closed in many locations. Please visit wyoroad.info for the latest road conditions.
  • Bitter cold with frostbite and hypothermia possible.

...Storm Summary...

A couple of weather systems passed through with the first during the
day Thursday and the second during the day Friday. These weather
systems brought accumulating snow to mostly western Wyoming, but
there was also snow in portions of the Bighorn Basin and in the
Bighorn Mountains. Wind was strong east of the Continental Divide on
Thursday, with wind prone areas such as Lower Red Canyon on South
Pass, Casper Outer Drive, and Fales Rock all gusting over 60 mph at
times.
