Severe Storms and Heavy Rain the Mississippi Valley and Midwest; Widespread Heat in the Central US

Severe thunderstorms and showers have the potential for large hail, a few strong tornadoes, damaging winds with gusts over 75 mph, and localized flash flooding across parts of the Mid/Upper Mississippi Valley and Midwest. SYNOPSIS:

Significant snow and/or blowing snow will continue this morning for areas east of the Continental Divide as well as Sweetwater County. Improving conditions are expected by late this morning into the afternoon, as the snow becomes lighter and winds weaken.

 

IMPACTS:

  • Severely reduced visibility to near zero early Monday morning from snow and blowing snow.
  • As of 3 AM roads were closed in many locations. Please visit wyoroad.info for the latest road conditions.
  • Bitter cold with frostbite and hypothermia possible.

Strong winds occurred across portions of central and western
Wyoming today ahead of a cold front. Below are the locations
that had wind gusts 50 mph or higher since 7am.

Note: The gusts at Lander and Red Canyon were the result of a
breaking mountain wave.
