NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour to visit Raleigh-Durham, N. Carolina

NOAA hurricane experts available for media interviews

The 2017 NOAA Hurricane Awareness Tour will come to Raleigh-Durham International Airport, Raleigh, N. Car., on Wednesday, May 10.


Media and the public can meet NOAA hurricane experts, scientists and crew members and get a look at some of the aircraft that help forecasters keep us safe – NOAA’s G-IV aircraft and a U.S. Air Force Reserve WC-130J “Hurricane Hunter” aircraft.


The tour will take place during National Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 7-13. For tips on staying safe this hurricane season, visit https://www.weather.gov/os/hurricane/. Other stops on the week-long tour include Gander, Newfoundland, Canada; Islip, N.Y.; Washington DC; Orlando, Fla.; and Opa Locka, Fla.

Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center, the NWS Raleigh forecast office, and crew members of the NOAA and USAF aircraft will be available for one-on-one interviews and aircraft tours.

Media interviews: 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Media tours of aircraft: 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Media Parking and Logistics

 

Where: General Aviation Terminal: 1750 International Drive, Morrisville, N.C.  *IMPORTANT* Satellite trucks MUST enter the airport from I-540 or U.S. 70 at the north end of the airport due to taxiway bridge clearance issues.

Live Shots: Wireless live technology is strongly encouraged. Cable runs for news broadcasts near the aircraft will be very long, please coordinate with Andrew Sawyer. Cables of any kind are not allowed inside the General Aviation Terminal. Note: wireless live technology is required for the press conference.

Parking: Satellite trucks ONLY may park in the designated area in front of the General Aviation Terminal (see map below). ALL other media vehicles may park across the street in Economy 2 Lot, which will be free for event parking. Follow event parking signs when approaching the General Aviation Terminal.
