Scattered severe thunderstorms are forecast across central and eastern North Dakota, as well as far northwest Minnesota Saturday (Slight Risk level 2 of 5). Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat. Elevated to critical fire weather conditions will persist through the weekend across the Western U.S. Isolated dry thunderstorms could lead to new fire starts over portions of the northern Rockies. Tour Scheduling: While we would like to host tours more often, we do not have a large staff, generally only 2 to 3 people available who are also working operationally. Due to staffing, we can only accommodate the following:

  • Schools (5th grade earth science classes and higher)

  • Civic groups involved in weather, water and climate and those preparing for and/or responding to disasters

For large groups with over 10 people, we ask that you keep the age limit to 10 years and older.

If you are in Middle School through College, and interested in a STEM future, please state that in your communications with us.

The best time to request a tour for groups is Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. For individual students interested in a STEM career, we can work on alternate times.

Please Note: Tours may be canceled, if necessary, due to active weather, staffing shortage, CDC COVID Community Risk in the medium or high category, or changes to the DHS terror alert threat level. We will contact you as soon as we can to alert you of a change.  We will make arrangements to reschedule the tour as soon as possible, or we can offer a virtual weather presentation instead.

To request a tour, please contact the National Weather Service in Portland, Oregon via email.
