National Weather Service Open House

 

Join us for an exciting day of weather and fun and meet some of our weather and local partners!

The National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office in Mount Holly / Westampton New Jersey will be holding its annual Open House on Saturday, September 12, 2015.  Our office serves 34 counties in four states, covering eastern Pennsylvania, northeast Maryland, Delaware, and most of New Jersey, including the entire Philadelphia metropolitan area.

This year’s Open House will run from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM -- its FREE and open to the public.  Station tours will be conducted every ~20 minutes beginning at 11:00 AM in groups of approximately 20 people each.  Each tour will consist of a brief video presentation about the NWS and hurricane forecasting, a walk-through of our forecast operations area, and a question and answer session.  Participants will be required to sign in and provide identification upon request.

The station tour schedule is as follows:

                         11:20 AM – 11:40 PM

                         11:40 PM – 12:00 PM

                         12:00 PM – 12:20 PM

                         12:20 PM – 12:40 PM

Tour registration sheets will be available near the entrance of our building so that participants can sign up for their desired time slot on a first-serve basis.

Our parking lot will be blocked off for this event, but free parking will be available across the street near the Special Services Buildings located off Pioneer Blvd.

If a last minute circumstance forces the cancellation of this year’s Open House, such as widespread severe weather, a notice will be placed on our Internet website at www.weather.gov/phi, and on NOAA Weather Radio All-Hazards.  Please be sure to check our website and/or listen to NOAA Weather Radio All-Hazards to ascertain the status of the Open House event before leaving home on Saturday, September 12th.

The NWS Forecast Office is located at 732 Woodlane Road in Westampton Township (near Mount Holly) in Burlington County, New Jersey.  Directions to our office are available here.  

Our Open House provides an opportunity for the entire family to see what goes on “behind the scenes” in producing a weather forecast, as well as watches and warnings which the NWS issues to protect lives and property.  So bring the family, learn some interesting information about the weather enterprise, and meet some of the forecasters who put together forecasts and warnings for the area!
