TORNADO HITS WESTMORELAND COUNTY
ABOUT 335 PM WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4, 2004, A TORNADO TOUCHED DOWN IN
WESTMORELAND COUNTY ABOUT 3 MILES EAST OF GREENSBURG AT CHARTER OAK,
UNITY TOWNSHIP.
THE TOUCHDOWN WAS BRIEF AS THE TORNADO MOVED FROM THE NORTHWEST TO
THE SOUTHEAST. THE PATH LENGTH WAS ESTIMATED TO BE ABOUT 100 YARDS,
WHILE THE PATH WIDTH WAS ABOUT 30 YARDS. ESTIMATED MAXIMUM WINDS
WERE ABOUT 65 MPH, CLASSIFYING THIS AS AN F0 (EF-0) TORNADO.
THE TORNADO UPROOTED SEVERAL TREES AND BROKE MANY BRANCHES, TOSSING
THEM ABOUT A NEARBY POOL. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED.
